From New Lanark continue along the Clyde Walkway, up through Castlebank Park. Continue down St Patrick's Road
to the bridge over the Clyde at Kirkfieldbank and follow the A72 for a short distance through the village
to encounter the entrance to the Walkway at Stonebyres. To Include a visit to St Kentigern's Church
in Lanark follow the alternative route described here, Kentigern Lanark Loop.
At Stoneybyres the river is crossed at the weir and follows the
right bank past the villages of Hazelbank, Crossford and Rosebank.
At Rosebank a short diversion of about 1 km can be taken to visit Dalserf Church with its connections with St Serf
and St Machan, disciples of Kentigern.
Beyond Rosebank the path passes Mauldslie Estate and through the woods to swing up to Cardie's Bridge on the B7011.
Keep to the path on the LHS and cross the A71 at the pedestrian traffic lights. Turn right and immediately left to pick
up the path on the other side. On the far side continue along the roadway for about 1.5 km
and, just into the woods, look for a small path on the left leading over a burn, back to the river bank. The path then
follows the river, first along a metalled roadway then through fields, eventually to enter The Dalziel Estate, Barrons
Haugh bird reserve and Strathclyde Park. On entering the park take the path on the right side of the loch to pass the
Roman Bath House. Neraby is the imposing Dukes' of Hamilton Mausoleum and
the Low Parks Museum.
Exit Strathclyde Park at the Raith Roundabout and take the pedestrian walkway across to Bothwell. At Bothwell Bridge,
site of the final Covenanters' battle, a choice of route can be made. The Clyde Walkway continues on the left bank of
the Clyde to reach the pedestrian bridge across to the Livingstone Memorial on the Blantyre side of the river. A better
route is to turn right up the hill into Bothwell to end at Bothwell Parish Church.
